Development
Networking Programme (SDNP)Guyana |
SDNP continued to provide Internet services to agencies in the government and NGO sectors. We host webpages for Government Ministries and other agencies.
Development of human resources
SDNP (Guyana) continues to hire part-time
and volunteer trainees in order to supplement its own staff and to help
develop local talent. Other clients are trained to develop their own pages.
Special assistance given to the University
On-going help was given to the University
with their email BBS (Waffle). Several times problems were corrected. A
UUCP connection was created for their use so that their system could connect
to our server instead of to a server in Puerto Rico which requires many
hours of overseas phone charges per week. No other local ISP provides such
a service.
A web site for the University is hosted by SDNP. The University is in the process of updating the pages.
Developing local content
Web page hosting continues to be an
expanding area and vital to our objectives. A list of the web sites is
maintained at http://www.sdnp.org.gy/clientpages.html
Work is in progress on sites for the National Library, Parliamentary Library and the Public Service Ministry. The sites for the Amerindian Peoples' Association and the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology were lauched during September 2000 (Amerindian Heritage Month)
Assistance given to UNDP
Technical assistance was given to
UNDP (Guyana) in areas such as email handling, email and internet security
and web page design. SDNP will assume the role of webmaster for UNDP Guyana.

financially self-supporting by selling services and participating in projects.
