If you have Windows 95 then 'Dial-up networking' must be installed and working. If you have Windows 3.1 then additional software is needed (e.g. Winsock) and your computer should have at least 6M of memory.
Of course you need a properly installed modem - we recommend a US Robotics external modem 28.8 KBPS or faster. The modem should be tested.
You will also need Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Explorer or similar software, which will handle email as well as browsing the web.
You will need either a dedicated phone line (one used only for this purpose) or one you can share with a phone. Both modem and phone can be connected but if the phone is picked up when you are using the modem you may lose your connection. Check your modem manual for connection instructions.
A surge protector for the phone line is a good idea.
Usually the installation will have to be done, or completed, by SDNP staff as certain technical information has to be put in to the computer (see below).
