Coordinator
The selection of a new coordinator is being finalised
by the Steering Committee.
Trainees
Two additional trainees have been taken on to help with
web page work.
Domain names
Internet domain names ending in gov.gy are now available
through SDNP (Guyana).
Local content for the WWW
We are continuing efforts to make information relating
to Guyana available on the Internet. One reason for allowing some of our
clients free access or subsidised access was to encourage them to help
with this goal. We ask all our clients to give some serious thought to
the question of what information they have which could be made available.
Please contact us when you identify what you can contribute – if you have
not done so already.
E-commerce
E-commerce refers to commerce conducted over the Internet.
For example someone advertises goods for sale on their web pages. Customers
purchase items using a credit card, the items are shipped to the customer
and the cost credited to the vendors account.
We are giving some thought to this topic at present. If you know of anyone in Guyana who has expertise in setting up e-commerce systems please let us know.
Changes in access procedures
Changes in the way our system controls dial-up connections
mean that it is no longer possible for two or more people to use the same
Internet account at the same time unless allowed by us. With more users
we have to regulate access more so that everyone can get access without
too much difficulty. We are also soon to introduce limits on the amount
of time per week allowed for each user.
Express e-mail number
As announced by email a special number is available (74579)
which allows you to check your mail quickly. Disconnection takes place
after a few minutes. To handle your mail efficiently we suggest you do
as follows:
Quick tip
For important documents ALWAYS keep a backup copy on
a good diskette. Hard disks wear out and die. Files get corrupted by power
failures or viruses…
